Essential Skills for New Managers

This interactive, hands-on workshop equips new and emerging managers with practical skills to lead people and manage daily operations using a Two-Eyed Seeing approach that brings together Indigenous values and essential management practices. The focus is on real workplace situations, not theory, supporting respectful, accountable, and culturally grounded leadership.

Meet our Instructors

  • Ms. Rannou-Stanley

    Ms. Rannou-Stanley is a Chartered Professional Accountant with an Master in Business Administration. She specializes in supporting not-for-profit organizations in their diverse projects, especially through financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting. Her years as a lecturer teaching at different levels and diverse age groups, and her international experience enabled her to adapt to different organizations and clearly communicate financial and accounting results to various stakeholders. Her experience teaching and supporting Indigenous communities reflects her interests in breaking educational barriers and supporting all communities.

  • Nathalie-Michèle Sylvain, MSc, CHRP, ICF certified Coach

    Nathalie-Michèle Sylvain holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Behaviour from the University of London, UK. Born in Canada, she has lived and worked abroad for several years where she contributed to the success of Canadian organizations and of local non-for-profit initiatives. Her varied experience ranges from communications, human resources, change and talent management to consultancy and coaching. She is a Canadian Certified Human Resource Professional and an International Coaching Federation certified coach.

    In addition to her work as a consultant, Nathalie-Michèle is a lecturer at McGill University where she teaches Organizational Behavior, Cross-Cultural Management and Leading Change.  In that capacity she has taught to the members of Cree Board of Health and Social Services, the Nunavik Board of Health and Social Services, in Kuujjuaq and the Makivik organization. Nathalie-Michèle completed a Course Certificate in Indigenous Canada, with the University of Alberta.  Mrs Sylvain is also part of McGill Executive Institute’s team of leaders.

  • Robert Saggers

    Robert E. Saggers (Bob) is a management consultant who since 1989 has headed up his own consulting practice in organizational learning and leadership development. Over this period, he has assisted a wide variety of clients to increase organizational effectiveness; design and facilitate leadership and management competency development programs; coach managers and in-house facilitators build high performing teams and lead change. Previously he worked in both operational and corporate human resource management roles within the manufacturing and financial sectors and was a principal at a major international consulting firm. 

    Concurrently, he was associated with McGill University for over thirty-five years as a graduate studies instructor; First, teaching human resource management; Then helped its School of Continuing Studies develop a graduate diploma and certificate leadership program in which he taught several courses until retiring in 2024. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award. He also collaborated with the University on research initiatives and Joint ventures to develop/deliver corporate training programs.  

    A life-long learner, he received a master’s in education in 2001 and a doctorate in instructional psychology and adult education in 2009. His thesis investigated the relationship between teaching, learning, leading and managing.  

    Apart from his professional and academic pursuits, Bob has played an active role in community-based and professional organizations. He is married to Jean, has two adult daughters and two grandchildren.
