This introductory course provides learners with a foundation in basic French communication skills through essential phrases, greetings, pronunciation, and everyday vocabulary. Participants will begin developing confidence in understanding and using common expressions that support simple interactions in daily life, workplace settings, and community environments.

Throughout the course, learners will practice listening and speaking skills while building familiarity with basic French sounds and sentence structures. By the end of the course, participants will be able to engage in simple conversations, recognize common vocabulary and greetings, and communicate using practical expressions for everyday situations.

Meet our Instructor

  • Dana Gavrila

    Dana Gavrila is an experienced French educator with over 35 years of teaching experience in colleges and universities. For the past 20 years, she has taught at McGill University’s School of Continuing Education, delivering French language programs for learners at all levels, from beginners to advanced students. She has also developed educational materials and specialized training programs for employers and professional learners.

    Holding advanced degrees earned through studies in France, Canada, and Romania, Dana is passionate about making language learning accessible, engaging, and culturally responsive. She believes that effective teaching is built on clear communication, adaptability, and mutual learning, and she is excited to bring these values to her work with the Eeyou Istchee College of Science and Technology.
