Indigenous Business Administration
The Indigenous Business Administration Program prepares learners for entry-level administrative and business support roles in Indigenous organizations, businesses, governments, and community enterprises. Students develop workplace readiness, office administration, customer service, financial administration, and entrepreneurship fundamentals while gaining practical experience through a community-based internship. Graduates may enter the workforce directly or continue their studies in the Indigenous Business Management Attestation program.
Module 1 —Workplace Readiness and Office Technology Foundations
Focus: Transitioning into post-secondary learning, personal development, and foundational digital skills.
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Demonstrate confidence in academic and workplace settings
- Apply foundational computer and workplace technology skills
- Use effective time management, study, and personal wellness strategies
- Demonstrate professional workplace communication and teamwork behaviours
Micro-certificate in Workplace Readiness and Office Technology Foundations
Module 2 — Small Business Start-Up and Administration
Focus: Entrepreneurship, business fundamentals, and financial administration.
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Explain the basic functions and operations of businesses and organizations
- Identify the key steps involved in starting and registering a business.
- Explore Indigenous entrepreneurship opportunities and community-based business models.
- Explain basic legal, ethical, and social responsibilities of business owners.
- Apply business mathematics to common business situations.
- Use Excel to organize, calculate, and track business information.
- Record and interpret basic financial transactions using introductory accounting principles.
- Develop a basic business concept and identify resources available to support business start-up and growth.
Micro-Certificate in Small Business Start-Up and Administration
Module 3 — Office Administration and Operations
Focus: office operations and human resources, coordinating projects, and people.
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Explain the role of human resources within organizations
- Demonstrate customer service and client communication skills
- Perform administrative tasks that support office operations and inventory processes
- Apply project coordination tools and techniques to support workplace initiatives
Micro-Certificate in Office Administration and Operations
Module 4 — Community Internship and Applied Experience
Focus: Practical application of knowledge through supervised workplace learning.
Internship Outcomes
Students will:
- Apply classroom learning in real workplace setting
- Demonstrate professional workplace behaviours and communication skills
- Build professional networks and employment readiness
- Gain practical experience supporting business and administrative operations

In the last semester of the program, qualified students will have the opportunity to participate in a paid and credited Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) experience.
WIL offers several advantages to students, including:

- Application of acquired knowledge and skills in a real business setting.
- Identification of professional strengths.
- Development of the communication, teamwork, cooperation, and interpersonal skills essential to today’s work environment.
